Twin Towers Exxon

The One Stop Auto Shop

by Michelle Strassberg

When Guytano Pappalardo opened his gasoline station and auto repair shop back in 1929, he had one pump, one attendant, and one simple goal – to provide all his customers with qualify, friendly service at a fair price.

Three generations later, son John Pappalardo Sr. and three grandsons are still making sure this goal is achieved at Twin Towers Exxon, located at 1290 Anderson Avenue in Fort Lee, on the corner of Warwick Avenue.

As you drive by Twin Towers, named for the two spiral cupolas atop its roof, it is easy to mistake the shop for just another gas station,  If you pull in, you will be greeted by a friendly attendant who pumps your gas, cleans your windshield, check your oil and fluid and even inspects your tires, all just for the price of  filling your tank.  The last time I remember seeing this done was before I could drive and my parents were wearing bell bottoms.

If you venture inside the building, you will find yourself in a comfortable, smokeless waiting area, complete with fresh coffee, clean men’s and ladies’ restrooms and lots of activity; for the backbone and real strength of Twin Towers is complete auto repair and service for all foreign and domestic vehicles.  This includes complete tire service, computerized battery charging and testing and dozens of other services.

Twin Towers specializes in high tech service and repairs not available at most other shops.  For example, their computerized battery charging and testing machine, featured in their advertisement on this page, is a highly advanced piece of equipment which not only tells you if your battery is good or bad but can also tell which part of your charging system needs to be fixed or replaced and can predict an upcoming problem.  The test, which takes approximately two minutes, completely takes the guesswork out of battery testing and can save drivers big headaches by not getting stuck on the highway (in the snow) with a dead battery.

At many other stations, such state-of-the-art machines sit around and gather dust.  At Twin Towers, where the mechanics take the time to learn and master the equipment, they are in full use, including computer diagnostic scanners for parts such as fuel pumps and ignition.

John Pappalardo Jr., cordial and extremely knowledgeable, having been in this business since his grandfather took him around the shop more than 20 years ago, will take care of any problem you have, whether it is a broken tail light or a car that shakes every 50 miles.  The strange and difficult problems are what Twin Towers thrives on, and no one will be turned away or talked down to.  Since the station is not a dealership, which can service only one type of car, Twin Towers has the knowledge and experience to service any make or model.

They also offer complete towing and road service.  Twin Towers won first place in a recent AAA customer survey, with more than double the number of votes received by the runner-up.

Twin Towers has also won the EXXON CTE (Commitment to Excellence) award at least four consecutive years, putting it in the top one percent of all Exxon stations in the country.  They can also handle your state auto inspection, saving  you precious time and aggravation by not having to wait on a three-hour line.

Twin Towers features the best in brand name parts, including Firestone tires and Monroe shocks and struts, and, of course, quality Exxon gasoline.

Take the time to visit Twin Towers Exxon to remind yourself of what an auto service station ought to be.  Or call them at 224-8444.  One of the Pappalardos, or any of the other helpful auto specialists, will be there to take care of your needs, Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Saturdays 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sundays 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
